All COCOON Concrete products are comprised of natural materials. We use a special mixture and the items are hand polished. Due to the nature of this fabrication process each item has its own unique look and can differ slightly from the sample colours.

They have a visual patina, surface and colour variation and can show air pockets. These characteristics have no bearing on the structural integrity of the products, nor should they be seen as defects. They give each item its special unique sturdy look you are looking for.

When purchasing a handcrafted natural product, no two products will ever be the same. This guide will show you the characteristics which are unique, normal and are to be expected.

External texture and air pockets

Due to the nature of the casting process air tends to become trapped within the concrete, which can at times cause small holes to form on the surface’s exterior. These can vary in size and number, adding to the aesthetic of our handmade natural product and its overall beauty and character.

Concrete surface variation

No two of our Concrete products will ever be the same, and due to the nature of concrete there will never be a solid block of the exact same colour due to the variables within our specialised concrete mix.

For clients who try to achieve the smoothest surface possible (within the margins this typical material offers) we have the option Polished available where the external surface will get an extra polish treatment to smoothen out the surface as much as possible.

Textural Flow Lines

Concrete is still liquid when being poured into the mold, this means that textural flow lines can be expected at times. These textural flow lines tend to be more visible when manufacturing our larger concrete products such as our bathtubs, and column basins and are considered a part of the unique nature of our handcrafted concrete products.

Exposed Fibres

Our baths and basins are manufactured using Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete. In some cases, the fibres may be visible within the surface of the concrete, these are not to be seen as structural defects, as the fibres only add strength and reinforce our product further.
