This house in the Cotswolds shows how well a modern traditional interior can work. The house itself is built from flint and stone, with reclaimed oak beams running through both the kitchen and the bathroom. Inside, a restrained set of finishes brings it up to date without losing any of its character.

Where Designer-Led Elements Meet Purpose

Rooted in simplicity and proportion, COCOON's designer collaborations bring architectural clarity to this Cotswolds bathroom. The house itself was not designed by the collaborators behind these pieces, but the bath, cabinet and fittings are drawn from COCOON's designer collections.
Each piece reflects a balanced approach to form, material and use, and sits comfortably within the stone and oak of the house.

The JP BATH SOLID SURFACE is finished in Shell, a soft, light tone that suits the natural palette of the room. Designed by John Pawson, the bath stands clear of the walls, with a single seamless curve running from rim to base. In a room full of texture, its smooth, simple form gives the eye somewhere to rest.

On the wall beside it, the PB SET24THERM thermostatic bath set keeps the controls within easy reach and leaves the floor around the bath clear.

The kitchen continues the copper theme with the PB Kitchen Mixer One Handle, set into an oak-topped island. The rest of the room keeps to the character of the house, with sage cabinetry, open timber shelving, a stone fireplace at one end and a deep ceramic sink at the other.
Glazing in the roof brings daylight down onto the island, while in the bathroom a tall window does the same at a lower angle.

Stone and Copper

Two Materials, Room to Room

Striato Elegante has a soft horizontal banding, with pale grey shifting into deeper tones along its length. The grain wraps around each piece rather than stopping at the edges, so the surface looks continuous from every angle. Copper appears wherever water is controlled or directed, from the taps and valves to the floor drain. Its warm, red-brown tone stands out against the pale stone and plaster, and it softens gradually with use.

Designing for Calm

Much of what makes a bathroom feel calm comes down to material and colour. Here, warm neutrals, natural textures and copper details keep the space relaxed. Shell and Striato Elegante sit comfortably together, and the copper adds warmth without drawing too much attention.
