Cocoon Bathroom

Snow at the Glass, Fire in the Wall

Snow lies across the ground, and tall evergreens stand at the edge of the glass. The interior doesn’t compete with them. Walls are plastered in warm cream, the floor is deep brown and the whole room is arranged to keep the landscape in view.

A Considered Calm

The project holds one mood from end to end. Brushed gold bathroom fixtures from the John Pawson by COCOON and the COCOON Concrete collection add a measured warmth to a muted palette of curved plaster, dark terrazzo and layered timber. Every object has room around it, and the interior feels settled at any hour.

A Bath Set Near the Snow

The COCOON COVE bath sits close to the window, a long oval in the soft sand tone of Beach. A narrow timber shelf rests across the rim, and the JP SET2THERM thermostatic bath fixtures rise beside it in Brushed Gold, arcing over the edge from the water, the view of the evergreens covered in snow stays open.
Water arrives at the temperature chosen, a small comfort with winter at the glass.

Spouts That Rise From the Floor

Two COCOON COLUMN basins in Beach stand side by side, each in a long cylindrical shape. The JP 36 floor mounted basin spout in Brushed Gold climbs beside each one and bends over the rim. The columns are accompanied by round mirrors hanging from the ceiling on slim rods and catch pieces of the snow.

A Counter Beside the Fire

Next to the fire wall, alongside a counter which sits on the dark timber doors. The JP-09.3 kitchen mixer and the JP 16 deck mounted cold water tap stand together on it, both in Brushed Gold, two high arcs against warm plaster.

A Shower Without a Door

The JP SET22THERM Brushed Gold shower fixtures are mounted within a curved wall, with a rain head above and a hand shower hanging. A narrow drain runs flush along the floor. A round niche in the neighboring wall holds the essentials and a disc of light glows overhead completing the shower.

The Warmth

A Ceiling in Layers

Overhead, dark timber steps inward in tiers, following the curve of the plan. Concealed lights run along each edge and give the wood an amber glow.

Terrazzo Beneath

Underfoot

The floor is a dark ground flecked with cream and rust. It runs without a break from the bath to the bed, which keeps the room continuous. It also gives the beach finish in the bath and basin a quiet base.

For the stillness

To Sit by the Window

Near the glass, a pair of cream colored chairs are sitting by the window. The cream fabric of the chair has the soft, piled look of fresh snow, and it sits near the glass as if the landscape had followed it in. A low round table sits close by, and a floor lamp with a textured stem stands further along the window. The textures in this corner are all soft and a little irregular.

In the Middle

A Bed Within Reach

A low timber bed with a textured headboard sits just beyond the bath. Small round lights are set into the headboard, each one a pale disc against the cream.

One Room, No Doors

Nothing divides the bath from the bed or the fireside. Walls curve where corners might have been, and the floor runs on without a seam. Winter stays outside, and the room keeps its own temperature.
